[WEBINAR - PES DAY] - Benchmark Test System to Evaluate Methods of Harmonic Contribution Determination

This webinar will be conducted by Bárbara Morais Gianesini, a professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at UFU – Federal University of Uberlândia. This is another activity offered by the PES Northeast Brazil Section in celebration of PES Day 2025.
Abstract:
The lecture will address the topic of determining harmonic contributions, also known as the allocation of responsibility for harmonic distortions. In particular, the reference test system developed by the IEEE PES Task Force on Harmonic Modeling and Simulation will be presented. This system is intended for use in research focused on proposing, evaluating, and comparing methods for determining harmonic contributions through simulations.

Report after the event ------------------------
The webinar covered the evaluation of methods for determining the harmonic contribution in electrical systems, with a presentation by Professor Bárbara Morais Gianesini, a specialist in power quality. During her talk, Bárbara emphasized the relevance of harmonic distortions, which affect the quality of electricity and are caused by the interaction of non-linear equipment. She discussed the need for mitigating measures, such as filters, and presented the harmonic distortion limits established in Brazil, as well as mentioning the importance of power quality studies for new connectors.
The professor also detailed a benchmark test system developed by the IEEE, which simulates different operating conditions and evaluates methods for determining harmonic contributions. Various methods were analyzed, such as superposition, and the presentation revealed that although most of the methods generated coherent results, some showed inconsistencies. Bárbara concluded by highlighting the importance of the IEEE system for research into harmonic distortions and invited participants to follow the Quality Laboratory's social networks.
