CASS Talks with Marcelino Santos, University of Lisbon, Portugal
Abstract:
Traditional Power Management Units (PMUs) generate reference voltages and currents, control the system start up and shutdown sequence, sequencing the reset and enable of voltage regulators. The new generation of PMUs, targeting IoT applications, is highly configurable, enabling the choice of individual power modes for each voltage regulator. Moreover, PMUs for IoT have multiple wake inputs that, as well as the shutdown and reset causes, can be individually configured. Multiple anti-tamper solutions can also be included. This talk will generally cover the blocks of PMUs and detail the new important features required for IoT applications.
Short Bio:
Marcelino B. dos Santos received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 1994 and 2001 respectively. He teaches microelectronics at Instituto Superior Técnico since 1990 where he is currently the Coordinator of the Scientific Area of Electronics. He advised ten PhD and more than forty MSc thesis. His research interests include power management, testability, ultra-low power mixed signal design and educational issues on microelectronics. He is a senior member of IEEE and was the chair (2014-2018) of the Portuguese join chapters of Industrial Electronics, Industrial Applications and Power Electronics. He published more than thirty journal papers and 130 conference papers. Marcelino Santos was co-founder of SILICONGATE LDA in 2008. He is, since then, the CTO of the company, today a word leading company in power management IP.
